Jaspal Singh, a resident of Waterbury who has been working in the city for the past five years, decided he wanted to give back to the community that has embraced him by bringing some holiday cheer to those who go to bed hungry.
Singh rents a food truck from Frankie’s Hot Dog King, which is a local fast food chain in Connecticut, and opens it up to those who are in need of food. The hamburgers, hot dogs, and French fries are free to the hundreds of people who line up outside his truck on Saturdays and Sundays.
Singh feels that this is now his city, as it has been employing him for quite some time, so offering this food to those who need it is a small price to pay for his gratefulness.
As the colder winter months approach, Singh plans to offer clothing and blankets to those in need of these items.
He has little concern for the cost of the food and the planned blankets and clothing, as seeing people smile when they are fed, clothed, and warm is sufficient repayment for the costs involved.
