Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana recently opened a new restaurant in Waterbury.
The Pizzeria is located just off I-84, is 3,400 square feet in size. The interior exudes a family atmosphere with its signature casual décor and the focal point of the coal-fired pizza oven. White subway tiles frame the walls, and there is both table and booth seating for 90 people.
Pepe’s is known for its Neapolitan style coal-fired pizza and uses the family recipes of Frank Pepe, who grew up on the Amalfi coast of Italy. Almost 100 years ago, he and his family brought the recipe to New Haven and the restaurant has been claimed as an institution in the city.
The grandson of Frank Pepe, Gary Bimonte, who co-owns the Waterbury location with members of his family, says the eatery has been looking to add a restaurant in the city for many years. The goal is to continue to meet the expectations of the restaurant’s regular and longstanding diners, and to find new customers as well.
The menu is simple, with pizza featuring a crisp, chewy crust and sauce made of Italian tomatoes along with salads, beer, and wine. Soda from Foxon, a company based in Connecticut, is a soft drink option.
