The goal is to build a facility that will be used for manufacturing, research, and warehousing. It promises to bring more than 50 new jobs to the area. The plan was announced in May 2020 by CEO Frank Monteiro. Such plans are often detailed and shared with the help of brochure printing services.
A year later, local politicians and press were invited to an industrial space leased by Drew Marine to celebrate the completion of the research facilities which was the last step of the building’s $8.2m retrofit. Now that the building is complete, legislators in Waterbury are working on a bill that will grant the company with another $1m from the Department of Economic and Community Development. The bill was introduced to General Assembly’s Commerce Committee by a team of five Democrats from Waterbury.
Senator Joan V. Hartley, one of the legislatures promoting the bill, said to the press:
“The opportunity is here to stretch this production facility into a more robust one. These are well-paying, professional jobs. There is a great opportunity here.”
According to a company spokesman, the grant will allow Drew Marine to purchase more equipment and increase the plant’s production capacity. Using the grant to increase the facility’s production capabilities could allow for more shifts at the Waterbury plant.
