The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association has recently awarded Waterbury Hospital with its Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Achievement Award.
The hospital has also received the Silver Plus Award from the Mission: Lifeline – STEMI Receiving Center of the American Heart Association (AMA).
The commitment of the hospital, and its success, in implementing a higher standard for stroke patients serves as the basis for the Get With The Guidelines Stroke award. There are achievement indicators to which hospitals must achieve 85% or higher adherence for two or more years in a row in order to receive the award.
The AMA has also outlined specific quality improvement measures for the treatment of patients who have severe heart attacks. System barriers need to be removed so that prompt treatment can be administered, and include the call to 911, transport by EMS, and continuing through hospital treatment and discharge. The Lifeline Silver Plus award recognizes those hospitals that have demonstrated these improvement measures.
Peter Adamo, CEO of Waterbury Hospital and Waterbury HEALTH, commented that the receipt of these awards is a testament to the high quality care that is provided at the hospital and is something of which everyone can be proud.
Hospitals can add the mention of such awards to their Letterheads so that the community becomes more aware of such accomplishments.
