Mattatuck Museum soon to start online and regular art exhibits

The Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury will have one online art exhibit and several regular art exhibits for art lovers. The museum first opened in 1912 and is currently being renovated.

The Edward Balthazar Online Exhibit will run from April 22 to December 31. Balthazar specializes in paintings, etching, oil paintings, and photographs of Waterbury churches, streets, stores, and schools.

He studied art with George Bellows, an artist and printmaker, and took lessons with artist Minnie Rogers Steel in her home studio. He also practiced law in Waterbury.

Also of interest to those who like graphic design will be the T.C Cannon art exhibit running until July 5. He was a Native American artist who worked with several materials, such as graphite, ink, markers, oil, acrylic, and watercolor.

His work depicts the politics and discrimination faced by indigenous Americans. His work has appeared at the Smithsonian Institute.

The Mattatuck Collection will be on display until July 31. It has colonial portraits, needlework, manufactured products and paintings of CT landscapes. On display until July 30 are the Rose Hill family history, and the American abstract artist George LK Morris exhibit runs until December 30.

The Mattatuck Museum is temporarily located at Rose Hill on Prospect Street. Free parking is available there and at the lot on Park Street. Hours are Monday through Friday 12:00 to 5:00 pm, and the first weekend of every month from noon-5:00 pm.
