Mattatuck Museum reopens art exhibits for summer

The Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury has reopened its art exhibits for the summer. It will have virtual and in-person events too and its Rose Hill, 63 Prospect Street location.

Current exhibits on display are Rose Hill family history and the Mattatuck Collection, a history of Waterbury showing portraits, needlework, and products made in four rooms.

Matt by Night Virtual Escape Room will be held August 4 and 6 from 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm. This game allows participants to explore paintings and figure out the clues. Registration is required and Zoom is used.

On August 6 from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm, and August 25 from 1 – 2:30 pm, “Courage in Corsets” is a documentary film that will be shown virtually via Zoom. It tells the story about women battling for the right to vote. Tickets are required to watch.

Member Perk Continuum Distilling, located on 2066 Thomaston Avenue, will have a tour and tasting at 6:00 pm for adults over 21. The brewer distills its own spirits using reclaimed craft beer. Call the museum for info.

In Her Own Words, a dramatic presentation on August 18, will be performed from 5:30 – 7:30 pm by Sheri Bresson, and is a discovery of women in history. Bresson is a teacher, actress, and writer. Only seven seats are available. Print shops provide flyer printing for events like this.

The Mattatuck Museum at Rose Hill is open 12:00 to 5:00 pm Monday – Friday, and for the same hours during the first weekend of the month. A limited number are allowed in the museum, tickets must be purchased ahead, and social distancing should be practiced.
