Local bank enables employees to determine grant recipients

A new giving campaign called Act to Impact Employee Giving Grants has been established by the Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation to enable employees of the bank to decide how the Foundation’s grants of $30,000 can be distributed throughout the community.

There were 20 teams of employees and each team was given the chance to give out a grant of $1,500 to a nonprofit in the area. Organizations received these grants during December and early January.

President of Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation, Stephen Lewis, said that employees want to be able to give to the community. This new initiative enables employees to not only donate money to the Foundation but play a role in deciding the recipients of these funds and the organizations about which they care so much.

The Highland Avenue branch of Carolyn’s Place in Waterbury and the Watertown Avenue branch of the Waterbury Police Activity League Inc. were two of the recipients of the one-time grant. Various printing services can be used to create printed materials to distribute throughout the community so residents are aware of such charitable efforts.

In 1997, the Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation was founded to make a financial contribution each year to the educational, arts, charitable, and health-related programs within the bank’s communities. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded over $6m.
