A knife forging class is planning to visit Waterbury next month, and residents seeking opportunities to learn new skills are invited to attend.
The chef knife forging class is scheduled to begin in a few weeks, and registered students can enjoy an opportunity to learn from experienced instructor Matt Parkinson.
The course will focus on the techniques necessary to forge chef knives for the kitchen, and will give attendees a chance to forge a knife that will get decades of use.
Students will forge knives from high-carbon steel during the two-day class, and the instructor will teach each step of blade smithing.
Participants will learn to shape, treat, grind, and polish the blade before fitting it with a wooden handle.
The class is suitable for guests of all experience levels, though it is geared toward beginners. Brochure printing is a great way to share the steps of forging a knife with students in classes like this.
All participants must be 18 years or older to register for the course. Guests will be given an hour lunch break on both days, though lunch is not included. Water bottles and appropriate clothing are strongly encouraged.
Dragon’s Breath Forge will host the event on March 9 and 10, with class beginning at 9:00am and ending at 6:00pm. Tickets cost $370 per person, and all supplies are included.
