The Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury recently opened an exhibition about the characters from the Peanuts comic strip, titled “Heartbreak in Peanuts”.
The exhibit is organized by the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center, from Santa Rosa, California and is currently touring the country, Local support of the exhibit comes from MacDermid Performance Solutions and the Republican-American is the media sponsor.
Featured in the exhibit are 70 high quality digital reproductions of original Peanuts comic strips, the focus of which are narratives of lost love. Some of the highlights are Snoopy left standing at the altar, Sally and her “Sweet Babboo,” Charlie Brown’s mission to meet the Little Red-Haired Girl, and Lucy throwing Schroeder’s piano in the sewer. The reproductions display Schulz’s inane ability to capture the experience of unrequited love.
The Mattatuck Museum is in the downtown architectural district of Waterbury on the central green. It is a member of the Connecticut Art Trail, a collection of 18 world-class historic sites and museums and receives support from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development and Connecticut Office of the Arts as well as the National Endowment for the Arts.
The exhibit runs through August 13. Museums often use printing companies to create materials about the art and history that they display.
