Bladesmithing workshop teaches beginners new skills in Waterbury

Waterbury residents seeking the skills to pick up a new hobby and forge metal items are in luck, as a beginner’s bladesmithing course is making a stop in town.

An Introduction to Bladesmithing course, led by blacksmith Jamie Lundell, is set to welcome students who want to learn a new skill set.

Lundell will provide the techniques and tips to gain competence with forging, grinding, and heat treating. The item students will make will be a simple knife they can take home with them at the course’s conclusion.

Each student will create a knife using 1075/1080 high-carbon steel during the workshop. Paracord will also be available for students to wrap the handle for comfort and protection.

Brochure printing is an effective way to lay out the steps and techniques new students will need to master for workshops of this nature.

All students must be 18 or older to register and participate in the course. The class session will break for an hour to allow guests to eat lunch, which they can bring from home or pick up from local restaurants. Attendees are asked to wear appropriate clothing for a safe experience.

The forging workshop will be held on the morning of Sunday, December 8, starting at 9:00 AM and ending at 4:00 PM. Class tuition is available online for $185, including all necessary resources.
