In May, herbalist Erik Harris will host his Foraging Walk, a wild plant workshop that will teach people how to identify edible and medicinal plants in the Middletown area.
Owner of the business Chi for Healing, Erik Harris, is an herbalist and practitioner of the meditational practice Qi Gong, along with being trained in other alterative medicinal areas. His workshop will be set in the Middletown area, with both in-person and virtual options. It will feature forging techniques and a Qi Gong session.
The event will begin with Harris leading the class through some Qi Gong exercises. The in-person group will be limited to 10 people to ensure social distancing guideline are met. Then Harris will go over the different edible and medicinal plants that bloom in the spring, especially focusing on spring ephemerals, which are plants that only appear for a short period. Plants such as trout lilies, dandelions, garlic mustard, and violets will be discussed.
The wild plant workshop is scheduled for May 22, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Guida's Farm Conservation Area. To attend, a donation of $25 is suggested, but if people cannot pay, the organizer asks that they pay it forward by sharing the event details with others.
