Photo contest to find the light of Middletown

Middletown residents with an interest in photography should note that The Buttonwood Tree Performing Arts Center is currently hosting the “Finding the Light” photo contest in honor of local photographer Edward Friedman.

The Buttonwood Tree is a performance space, art gallery, and used bookstore all rolled into one. To raise funds for its youth programming, it is hosting a photo contest open to everyone who wishes to participate. It is dedicated to the memory of Friedman, whose photographs of the North End of Middletown are much loved by the community.

The contest has three categories: people, places, and things. First, second, and third place awards will be given in each of these categories and youth (17 and under) and adult (18 and up) divisions. There will also be a special award in the category of “Finding the Light in Middletown” given to the adult and youth participant who submits the best photograph taken in Middletown.

The deadline for submissions is Monday, March 1. An exhibition showcasing the winning photographs will occur later in the spring. To enter, the youth entry is $5 and the adult entry is $10. To register, visit the organizer’s website.
