Middletown sets days aside to pause for the homeless

The homeless who have passed away in 2014 will be honored by their friends and the community in Middletown with speeches and a candlelight vigil as part of National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day.

The day, which is held on December 21, was instated to give a chance for the homeless to come together in remembrance of those in their community who have died over the past year. It also provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the problem of homelessness.

This year, St. Vincent de Paul, in conjunction with Wherever You Are Healthcare for the Homeless (WAY), will be hosting its memorial service, candlelight service, and dinner on December 18, starting at 4:00 pm. Musical selections will be performed by members of the community.

Supply Bags containing personal hygiene products and Brochures detailing social services available to them will be provided to homeless and near homeless individuals. Nonprofits rely on the services of brochure printers to dispense information to their clients.

The memorial service is open to the public, and although is for the homeless and near homeless to pay their respects, local community members are welcome as well. The service takes place at the Church of the Holy Trinity, and a dinner will be provided for the needy at St. Vincent de Paul directly after the service.
