Cultural celebration brings Hartford community together

Hartford residents looking to celebrate Latino culture will have a unique opportunity in a few weeks, as a Dia de Los Muertos celebration is in the works.

The Dia de Los Muertos Celebration, or Day of the Dead, is being organized by Helena’s Casita in Hartford, with the goal of sharing cultural traditions while paying respects to departed friends and family members. The Gentle Bull Shop is assisting Helena’s Casita to ensure a successful celebration.

Interested parties who want to participate are encouraged to bring a photo of a loved one to add to the community altar for a meaningful experience. The organizers will also ensure there are several family-friendly games and activities. Poetry readings will also be read from local poets and artists. Poster printing provides a classic marketing medium that blends colorful images and words to promote such events in the community.

Several local restaurants and vendors will be at the cultural experience with traditional cuisine and Latin flavors. Local artisans will also have dedicated spaces to set up and display their handcrafted goods for shoppers to purchase. It is an ideal setting for Hartford residents to come together with family and friends during the spooky season.

The Pratt Street Historic District will host the Dia de Los Muertos celebrations on Saturday, October 18th, from noon to 5:00 PM. Tickets are free online, and donations are appreciated.
