Later this month, local music lovers will have an opportunity to spend a nostalgic evening with the jazz collective band Dustbowl Revival.
The Venice, California-based ensemble plays a mixture of early Americana, gypsy jazz, and 1930s swing, with just a touch of gospel. Reminiscent of John Steinbeck’s Depression-era, one Arizona reporter described a performance by the group as “backyard party”.
Different combinations of instruments offer diverse sounds for every performance. On any given night, the show may offer any combination of brass, string, and percussion, or even a bass made from a canoe oar. To enhance the atmosphere band members have been known to add a washboard, harmonica, ukulele, or kazoo, ensuring that no two performances are alike.
The number of band members fluctuates from nine to 20 or so, with some being core members while others stand in as guests. Awarded LA’s Best Live Band by LA Weekly Best of 2013, the band offers an intimate evening for both performers and those listening. Selfies taken at the event might well provide great fodder for future Stationery printing.
The performance will be held Friday June 20 at the Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne, located at 70 Sanford Street, Fairfield. Doors open at 7:00 pm with the show starting at 7:45 pm. Tickets will be $20.Get a Free Quote for Stationery
