Loveland residents invited to explore life of ravens
The Corvidae family of birds includes species noted for their intelligence, and a Loveland walking workshop will offer an introduction to the life and times of one of its members.
Ravens will be the focus of a hike led by Larimer County Naturalists, and it will visit Devil’s Backbone Open Space. The group will be keeping its eyes and ears open for signs of ravens, which may often be told apart from their cousins, the crows, by their croaking call.
During the hike, participants will learn more about ravens and their ecology, and the goal is to make it to the Keyhole section of the trail and back. The registrants will gather at the trailhead’s covered pavilion before they head out, and the distance covered will be approximately 2.5 miles.
The event listing explains the hike is best suited to those age 16 and up, and while admission is free, a parking pass is required. Everyone is reminded to bring snacks, water, sun protection, sturdy shoes, and binoculars if they have them.
Birdwatching is a pastime that encourages connection with nature. Supplying attendees in an outing with basic field guides will make it easier for them to identify the birds they spot, and these can be prepared by print shops.
The What About The Ravens event will take attendees to the trail at Devil’s Backbone Open Space on May 14. Everyone who registers is asked to arrive by no later than 10:00 am.
