Bird banding provides researchers and other scientists with valuable data, and Loveland’s High Plains Environmental Center will soon be engaging in this activity.
The public is invited to be part of the Center’s bird banding day, and all ages are encouraged to stop by. It will be led by two experts in avian conservation, and it is scheduled for the morning hours.
The session will open with an active presentation by Scott Rashid, who will be demonstrating how songbirds are gently captured in a mist net so they can be carefully measured, weighed, and banded (meaning a small tag is attached to their leg or wing) before they are released. There may be an opportunity for the attendees to hold a bird, should numbers allow. This portion of the morning will be followed by a bird viewing walk led by Sheila Webber, who is a local expert birder and board member of Northern Colorado Bird Alliance. This outing will follow a route around Equalizer Lake.
At events like this, Print shops that offer custom Stationery printing services can provide species checklists, data recording sheets, and other personalized materials.
This chance for Loveland's fans of the feathered set to learn about bird banding will be on offer on Sunday, February 1, starting at 9:00 am. Anyone who would like to join the activity can reserve their spot through its web listing.
