Students at the Goddard School of Castle Rock were recently involved in the Goddard School Preschooler-Approved Toy Test, held for the 11th consecutive year, during which students at the school were involved in testing toys.
Toy manufacturers made their submissions to a committee of professionals in early childhood education who then sent them to the school. Teachers then helped the preschoolers to vote on the toys that were among those rated the highest by the committee. Criteria used by the teachers of judging the toys included how well creativity was encouraged by the toys, their skill development, and level of interactivity.
Donna Garcia, lead teacher at the school, commented that the students’ participation helped the teachers to discover what kinds of toys would be best for the school. Another teacher at the school, Morgan Stoeckle, added that the students seemed to enjoy the experience as well and it was fun to watch them as they tested out the toys.
Basic Fun’s Lite Brite toy was this year’s winner. The toy enables children to place multicolored pegs on a board that lights up to create a variety of designs. Around 100 of these toys will be donated by the school to Toys for Tots during this holiday season.
Schools such as this one can turn to poster printing to promote such activities and their benefits for the students, teacher, and the community.
