Ice rink to come to Castle Rock area

DAWG Nation will be building a three-sheet ice rink in Castle Pines. DAWG Nation is a non-profit organization based in Littleton that assists hockey families in times of need,

Hockey programs in Castle Rock and the Douglas County School District will be able to take advantage of this rink as they now need to travel to other cities and towns for practice. Derek Chaney, athletic director of the district, expressed his happiness in having this rink in the county.

Martin Richardson, president of DAWG Nation, said that the rink will be for both disabled and able-bodied plyers and support both youth and adult hockey programs in the area. The rink will be made available for large hockey tournaments, open skate times for the public, figure skating, and hockey programs. The goal is also to attract hockey competitions from across the country and around the world.

Richardson added that fundraising has begun to build the facility. Such fundraising and its purpose can be made known throughout the community through many kinds of printing services. Richardson said that grants as well as monetary and in-kind donations will be used to cover construction costs so that the facility can be built at almost no cost.

The rink is expected to cost $38m and groundbreaking to take place by January 2021.
