In observance of Earth Day 2025, the willow conservation project is organizing two teams that will be restoring natural habitat here in Castle Rock this April.
Volunteers will be harvesting and planting willows along the Colorado Front Range on the McMurdo Gulch Trail.
This event will be outdoors, family friendly, and geared to volunteers aged 10 years or older. It will be ideal for organizations such as the Boy Scouts.
All volunteers must choose which team they want to be on when registering before the event (Team A or B) and those 14 years of age or younger must register with a guardian or parent. All participants must wear shoes and have zippered pockets or Backpacks in order to keep their hands free. Coordinators will supply orange safety Vests that must be worn at all times. Water, instructions, gloves, and all equipment and tools will be provided.
To get the word out, conservation enthusiasts that support activities like this occasionally get some flyer printing arranged and spread material in their neighborhoods and workplaces.
Team A will meet at a designated parking area on Castle Oaks Drive at the McMurdo Gulch Trail head. Team B will meet across from 4042 Desert Ridge Circle parking lot at the McMurdo Gulch Trail entrance in Sage Canyon.
The 2025 Earth Day Willow Harvest and Planting will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, April 19th. Guests are asked to arrive at 8:30 am. If the weather becomes inclement, the event will be moved to the following Saturday, April 26th.
