Many here in Castle Rock are looking forward to the Douglas County Fair and Rodeo coming at the end of July.
A 10-day event, the opening day family entertainment will include Big Bubble Bonanza, Kodiak Ranch Petting Zoo and Safari Sam and Oscar the Awesome Ostrich, and a carnival.
The Douglas County Fair and Rodeo Parade will kick things off Saturday at 9:30 am. There will be Raptor Educational and Talon Talks, Mutton Bustin’, and a Wild West Wagon Photo Booth.
Other activities will include car and fashion shows, a pie-eating contest, and an Old West Town.
Rodeo events will begin with the Crowning of Fair and Rodeo Royalty on this first Saturday. Exceptional Rodeo will take place Sunday, and the PRCA Rough Stock event will be on the Thursday.
The second Friday will offer the PRCA Slack, Royalty Luncheon, Rodeo Queen Barrel Race and the PRCA Rodeo. That Saturday will have the PRCA Rodeo Youth Camp and PRCA Rodeo, which will take place again on the closing Sunday.
Exhibitors will be entering items in the Creative Arts open division, quilts, bake sale, agriculture and floriculture, and junior division. Winners often take pictures to local Print shops to be made into duplicates for extended family.
Animal lovers will be flocking to the llama, cat, dog, and English and Western shows, and other animals will be on display.
The Douglas County Fair and Rodeo will take place at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 500 Fairgrounds Road from Friday, July 28 through Sunday, August 6.
