A new strategic plan for the next five years is now in place for the fire department of the town of Castle Rock. The plan is needed for the department to maintain its accreditation with the national Commission on Fire Accreditation International. The department has had a strategic plan since 2010 and has been accredited since 2012.
There are six major goals for the department for 2020 through 2024. They are to:
• Plan and implement a facility of fleet service and logistics
• Update and improve the fire training center
• Review and examine all technologies used by the department
• Develop a plan for special operations management
• Create a community wildfire protection plan for wildland mitigation
• Provide for the ongoing wellness and health of all members of the department and minimize return to service times

Fire Chief Norris Croom said the strategic plan was based on feedback from the community and highlights the major concerns, expectations, and priorities. The community expressed that it expected adequate staffing and response times and well-trained personnel and was most concerned with funding, resource deployment, development, and growth.
