Both a volunteering venture and a wildlife education program will help to connect the Castle Rock community with Earth Day in April.
On Saturday, April 20, in an effort to restore riparian habitat, volunteers will be picking up trash and planting trees, willows, and other vegetation along the East Plum Creek as part of 2024 Earth Day Willow Harvest and Planting. Tools, snacks, Vests, gloves, and instructions will be provided. Although the event will be free, those wishing to get involved must register in advance.
Earth Day Willow Harvest and Planting will take place at Heir and Gannon Open Space, located at 1737 South Perry Street, from 9:00 am to 11:00am. The rain date will be the following Saturday, April 27.
Local law enforcement representatives and natural resource staff from Colorado Parks and Wildlife and Douglas County Open Space will be providing information on wildlife that can be found in the area such as turkeys, rattlesnakes, mountain lions, bears, coyotes, deer, prairie dogs, and beavers. Tips will be given about how to watch and avoid contact with native wildlife. Guests may also touch and see real wildlife displays. The talks will be free, and registration will also be required.
Stationery printers might decide to use pictures of animals like these on their cards and Letterheads.
