Castle Rock approves property purchase for park development

The town council of Castle Rock has approved the purchase of property near the Plum Creek Golf Course at a cost of $525,000 for 7.6 acres.

The property currently has a pool and tennis courts that are currently non-functional. The town plans to remove the tennis courts and pool, renovate the property, and convert it into a neighborhood park in the future. Jeff Brauer, director of parks and recreation, said the property is well-suited to become a neighborhood park as it is with walking distance of residents.

David Corliss, town manager, added that there is off-street parking at the site and enough space for a park and views of The Rock landmark. He affirmed that purchasing this property is a worthwhile deal as there are not many opportunities such as this one to develop a neighborhood park.

Banner printing can be used at such sites so residents become aware of such plans for their development. Representing the Plum Creek area, member of the council George Teal expressed his appreciation to the town for the purchase, noting that residents had been concerned about the property for quite some time.

The fund from the town will be used to purchase and renovate the property. This fund consists of cash-in-lieu payments made by developers who have no property to give under the park land dedication requirements of the town.
