Brighton walk to promote mental health

The Brighton Youth Commission, in conjunction with Brighton Youth Services and 27J Schools, will be marking a milestone this spring as it holds its 15th annual SPEAK Walk, aiming to raise awareness of teen mental health issues.

The event will include participating schools from the Brighton area. Walkers will look to show solidarity with young people facing mental health challenges and reduce the stigma around this issue. There will be a week full of educational programming in participating schools leading up to the walk, as well as pre-walk festivities.

All walkers will receive a “swag bag” of commemorative items, including a T-shirt, candle, and mental health resources. Runs and walks often use Print shops and trophy makers to help create take-home items for participants. Proceeds from the registration fees will go towards future SPEAK events promoting youth mental health awareness.

The walk will be a five-kilometer walk through Carmichael Park. Other SPEAK Week activities include worksheets, training workshops, and “Wear Yellow Day” to show support for the cause. Past editions have also featured attractions and activities at the start and finish line, including yoga, pet therapy, a live DJ, yard games, a “Break It” station, and other methods to promote youth wellness.

The 2026 edition of the SPEAK Walk will take place at Carmichael Park in Brighton on the afternoon of Saturday, May 2.
