Evan Ross, an actor and first-time restaurateur, has joined forces with two culinary giants to open Leona’s Sushi House on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City in the space once occupied by La Loggia.
Frank Leon, former owner of La Loggia, and chef Shigenori Fujimoto, known for his sushi, are both also part of the venture.
Despite a modest entry way, the interior is expansive, spanning 5,000 square feet. The former Ceremony Bar at La Loggia has a retractable window and has been combined with additional space from the previous restaurant, together with a covered courtyard complete with a lounge and bar to create a vast indoor-outdoor seating space surrounded by greenery and samurai statues.
Leona’s features fare inspired by Japan and Peru. Signature dishes feature ingredients like Japanese sea bream, yuzu, and albacore. More traditional dishes include sashimi, nigiri, and a wide range of cut and hand rolls. There is a second menu at the restaurant that pays tribute to the Italian past of the space. Among the featured dishes are a shimeji mushroom risotto.
Such new restaurants often turn to Posters of a promotional nature created by local Print shops to inform residents and visitors of such unique cuisine.
The restaurant is open from Tuesday through Saturday beginning at 5:00 pm, and can be found at 11814 Ventura Blvd. in Studio City.
