The City of Vallejo is joining forces with the Vallejo City Unified School District to form a program offering tangible benefits for families.
In total, 75 students in the district will be selected to receive a college scholarship from the College Bound Vallejo Scholarship fund.
As the fund’s name indicates, the money is to assist students with college costs so they can meet future educational and professional goals. Over a two-year period, each candidate will receive up to $4,000 to help defray expenses.
One of the scholarship requirements is that students give back to the Vallejo community by performing 150 hours of community service. The intent is to encourage a commitment to civic engagement and community improvement.
College Bound Vallejo is an example of how participatory budgeting can make a difference, since the project was selected by residents to be funded through city revenues.
To apply, a student must be a Vallejo resident with verifiable financial need, and receive a high school diploma in 2014. The process requires submission of three essays, each one 250 words in length, meaning that local Print companies make be called upon to give submissions a professional touch.
Applications are available at all participating high schools in the Vallejo City Unified School District, and must be handed in by May 1 to be taken into consideration.Get a Free Quote for Print
