Vallejo offers variety to celebrate Independence Day

Festivities for Independence Day in Vallejo will include a wide range of activities, but begins with the Fourth of July Parade.

The Grand Marshall for this year is Avery Greene, a third-generation automobile businessman, and Honorary Grand Marshall is Myrna Hayes, president of the Mare Island Trust. There will be cars, horses, giant puppets, musical performers, officials from the city, and characters in costumes, among others, in the parade.

The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tennessee Street at Broadway Avenue. When it arrives at Georgia Street, the parade floats and participants will join the Mad Hatter celebration at the waterfront. Here there will be live music, a wine and beer garden, giant kites, a dog parade, cultural performances, a classic car show, and interactive activities and rides for both children and adults.

Following the festivities at the waterfront will be the Spirit Ship Celebration on Mare Island at the Mare Island Promenade beginning at 5:30 p.m. The highlight of this event will be a drone show with additional activities including a kids’ zone, music by DJ TURN UP, food trucks offering beverages and bites, and magic by Perry Yan, a well-known magician.

People are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and extra layers for an evening designed for people of all ages.

Local print shops can create flyers, posters, and other printed materials to promote such unique events throughout a community.
