Vallejo college ranks among best for economic value

Residents of Vallejo, California, have a new reason to seek a college education locally, according to the results of the recently released College Guide from Washington Monthly.

The higher education ranking from the nonprofit magazine listed California Maritime Academy among the nation’s best colleges in terms of “bang for the buck”.

Cal Maritime, as the facility is colloquially known, ranked in sixth place among the list of baccalaureate colleges from all over the United States that offered, according to the website of Washington Monthly, economic value for students per dollar spent.

When the contributions made by each college towards the “public good” were taken into consideration, Cal Maritime came in 75th place. Many of the organizations given a position within the top 100 will likely update their promotional materials to reflect the fact, calling on the services of professional flyer and brochure printers.

Cal Maritime is no stranger to national accolades; earlier in 2014, it was the recipient of high grades awarded by the U.S. News College Rankings, which called the California Maritime Academy the western region’s best public college.

One of California State University system’s 23 campuses, the Vallejo-based college is one of just seven maritime academies in the whole of the U.S. that offer degree-level courses. Established in 1929, the college offers undergrad majors in a number of subjects, including Global Studies and Maritime Affairs, Mechanical Engineering, and Marine Transportation.
