Vallejo children invited to a day of fishing fun

The Greater Vallejo Recreation District and the Vallejo Rotary Club will be joining forces to host the annual Fishing in the City event.

The day will feature an assortment of informational booths and displays that will give the 100 children who participate a chance to learn more about fishing and the importance of being good stewards of the area’s lakes, rivers, and other waterways. Each boy or girl will receive a free tacklebox full of equipment that they will be able to use on their own, even after the event is over.

To help make it possible for each of the children to catch something, the lake will be stocked with between 1,500-2,000lb fish, and a the portion where the participants will be practicing will be sectioned off in an effort to increase their chances of success. Once the activity is over for the morning, there will be a barbecue for the kids and their families as well. Banners for an event like this can be supplied by an area printer.

Fishing in the City will be held on April 8 from 8:00 am until 10:00 am in Dan Foley Park. It is free to participate, but since only 100 spaces are available, families who are interested are highly encouraged to sign them up as soon as possible.
