Vallejo artists in demand

A significant effort has been made to get artists to contribute to the documentation of the architecture in downtown Vallejo.

The basic idea has been to promote the involvement of artists from the city. However, individuals from counties like Contra Costa and Solano were able to apply to participate if there was a shortage of local interest.

The project included an incentive of $100 for each artist. In addition, those people who succeed in producing work of the right quality will get their output displayed in a Vallejo Art and Architecture Walk. This could be showcased using poster printing in Vallejo.

As a board member of the Vallejo Community Arts Foundation (VCAF), Tom Arie Donch has played a role in developing the initiative. He has highlighted the point that video could be important in the context of the planned walk.

Donch has told the Vallejo Times-Herald:

“It’s really about celebrating art in the community.”

The VCAF has decided to select a total of 20 artists to do the artwork in question. A committee of citizens will determine which creative people get on the final list.

The artists did not simply have to show they were interested in the environment of the city; they also had to submit a résumé for inspection. This document had to include details of their qualifications in the field of art.
