Special concert to be performed by the Vallejo Symphony

The Vallejo Symphony will be performing the concert, “Game of Cards,” on two days in November at the Empress Theatre on Virginia Street in Vallejo.

Jeu de Cartes (The Card Game) is a witty, neoclassical masterpiece composed by Stravinsky and inspired by poker, his favorite card game. The piece is filled with quotations from works by Tchaikovsky, Johann Strauss, Beethoven, Ravel, and the Barber of Seville by Rossini.

The concert will feature the Hersh family who are considered to be musical royalty in the Bay Area. Alex is a cellist who won the Pro Musicis Award for 2022 and has performed with the Boston Pops and the Houston Symphony. His father, Stefan, is a chamber musician, soloist, orchestral musician, and pedagogue and one of the most revered violinists in the country. Stefan has also served as the Concertmaster for the Vallejo Symphony.

Also featured at the concert will be the Double Concerto by Johannes Brahms.

There will be two performances of this concert. The first will be at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday November 12 and the second one at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday November 12. There will be a talk one hour before each performance.
