Jason Ta, interim police chief of Vallejo, has been named as the permanent police chief for the city.
Ta has been in the interim position since Chief Shawny Williams resigned in 2022. Ta had previously served for 27 years in the Police Department of San Jose. He was hired by Williams as deputy chief in 2021 and was a captain at the time.
The selection process for a new chief began in October and Ta was one of three finalists. Andrew Murray, City Manager, said the city had a pool of strong candidates but Ta received the highest rating from the four people on the search committee. He added that Ta has worked in the department and has a track record of advancing the effort at collaborative reform and of improving relationships in the community.
Murray said that, in addition, Ta has stabilized staffing levels in the department and has been active in many reform efforts to improve the operations, procedures, and conduct in the department.
Appointments like these often call for business card printing services.
Ta expressed his honor in being selected to lead the department. He said that he has been committed to the department, the city, and the community to elevate the department to become an exemplar of public safety and will continue his efforts in this area.
