The 2nd annual Chalk Art Festival is coming to Vallejo soon. It is sponsored by Visions of the Wild organization. The theme for the chalk art is Wild and Scenic.
This past week Friday Art Walk raised money for the festival with a silent auction and art sale. The money raised will be used to pay invited artists a stipend to participate in the festival.
Rita Irvani a member of the Chalk Art Committee said that adding the Chalk Art Festival to their Visions of the Wild Week was a way to draw residents and tourists into downtown to see art.
The festival will be held this year on Georgia Street which has about 200 blocks. So far over 20 artists have been signed up to participate. Adults have to have their work reviewed by the Chalk Art Committee.
The committee is are looking for beautiful and creative work with a “Visions of the Wild Theme” After the art is finished at the end of the festival, it is pressure washed. This is because it’s on a city street.
The Chalk Art Festival will be held Sept. 21-23 from 12- 4 p.m. daily. The location is Georgia Street and Sonoma Blvd. Art exhibits at the Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum will be open during the festival and activities available at Wild and Scenic.
Vallejo has printing services that can design and provide flyer printing for events like this for businesses, non-profits, and clubs.
