Sustainable community opens in Vacaville

The Lagoon Valley development in Vacaville will be the first “conservation community” in Northern California.

It will be opening in phases and will offer a wide range of amenities as well. Currently close to 150 homes have been built with approval for a total of just over 1,000 homes.

Director of development in California for Triad Development, based in Seattle, Curt Johansen, said that his vision was to build a first-of-its-kind community in the county and that the project has taken 20 years to come to fruition.

He said the original plan for the property was to build a massive strip mall and office space but was highly unsustainable. He said that his approach is to forever protect 85 percent of the land and keep it for recreation and as open space such that the built environment is rather small. He added that the people who live in the community know that the open space surrounding them will always be there.

As people are moving into the community, next to be built will be the places for recreation and play, including new private and public parks, and an 18-hole championship golf course. Also under construction is a town center with restaurants and shops and an organic farm for people to grow their own produce.

One of the most effective ways to highlight such special communities and their amenities is through brochure printing.
