What's Happening in Vacaville, CA…

Former Vacaville coach to be inducted into hall of fame

Clint Birch, former wrestling coach of Vacaville High School, will be inducted into the California Wrestling Hall of Fame next year.

Vacaville is one of three schools where three other coaches have earned this honor. The other two schools are Oak Grove and Clovis. Additional inductees into the Hall of Fame from Vacaville are wresting coaches Dave and Larry Nelson.

News of such remarkable accomplishments is often made known throughout a school district with flyer printing.

Birch graduated from Vacaville High School in 1998 and returned home in 1993 to accept a teaching position at Willis Jepson Middle School. Dave Nelson recruited him into coaching and so Birch started his coaching career at the middle school level. He served as an assistant coach for Rich Penaluna from 2001 to 2005.

Birch holds the record for his section with the most Masters championships by a coach with 12. The team has also been led by him to 11 team section dual championships in Division I. Under his leadership, Vacaville was 85-0 in the duals of the Monticello Empire League, a competitive high school athletic conference in Northern California's Solano County.

Principal Adam Wight proclaimed Birch one of the greatest coaches in the history of the school upon his retirement in 2022.

The induction ceremony will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in Sacramento on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
