Vacaville to charge fee for credit card payments

A new credit card convenience fee policy, applicable to specific services provided by the city, has been approved by the Vacaville City Council.

This will shift the processing costs for credit cards from the city to those who choose to pay by credit card. The payment processing vendor of the city charges this fee and not the city.

There will be a non-refundable processing fee of up to three percent for customers by the third-party payment provider of the city for those who choose to pay by credit card. No fees will remain for those who pay by check, cash, and electronic Checks.

Currently, approximately $400,000 per year in credit card processing fees is absorbed by the city from all departments. This new policy brings the city more in line with standard practices among public agencies by ensuring that only those who use credit card services bear these costs.

GeorgeAnne Meggers-Smith, Assistant City Manager, said:

“This change allows the City to maintain high-quality services while ensuring fairness for all residents.”

Beginning Friday May 1, transient occupancy taxes and business license will be charged this fee while Wednesday July 1 is when excise billing, water and sewer billing, and parks and recreation will be charged this fee. More details on such fees and when they will begin for businesses and the rest of the community can be outlined with flyer printing.
