Virtual reality start-ups cluster in Los Angeles

Entrepreneurs interested in the commercial possibilities of virtual reality are flocking to Los Angeles.

Last year, the consultancy Kzero forecast that consumers would be spending about $5 billion for virtual reality tech. As many tech firms in the sector are clustering around Los Angeles, this kind of demand could generate additional interest in digital Business Cards in Torrance. With regard to virtual reality, Cosmo Scharf, a co-founder and event organizer at Visionary VR, has commented:

"Just in this last year alone, we've witnessed firsthand a transformation."

Within the last few weeks, GoPro has announced a partnership deal with Google. This move could see the smaller firm pushing further to popularize filmmaking of the virtual reality variety. It may even be the case that large audiences are attracted by the prospect of 360-degree filming.

Other organizations are keen to get in on the act. For instance, SpherePlay has produced a new app. This app has the capacity to facilitate the sharing of 360-degree photographs. The idea is that immersive photographs can be appreciated properly if the right equipment is used. The hope is that virtual reality can be employed to promote empathy in the mind of the viewer.

The estimate by Kzero might even prove to have been a bit on the cautious side. Forecasts from Gartner and Digi-Capital have suggested that $10 billion could be spent on virtual reality tech by 2018.
