Transit line to be extended to Torrance

The Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR) for the C Line Extension to Torrance has been unveiled by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro).

The FEIR includes over 2,000 comments from the public and features refinements to the design, clarifications, updated cost estimates, and details on acquisitions of real estate.

This project will extend the K Line of the Metro from the station in Redondo Beach to the one that is planned at the Torrance Transit Center. This is an extension of 4.5 miles and will offer improved connectivity and a trip of 19 minutes to Los Angeles International Airport. Funding for this project came from Measures R and M, which were approved by voters.

Local Print shops can help provide more details on such projects and their benefits for the public with Flyers, mailers, and other printed materials.

Fernando Dutra, member of the Whittier City Council and Metro Board Chair, said that this is a significant advancement in that extending rail service to Torrance will provide greater access for residents of Los Angeles to cleaner air, faster commutes, and good jobs. He added that they are looking forward to working with partners in the community to ensure that this project best serves the needs of the community now and for many years to come.

Construction on this project could start as early as 2026 with an opening expected in 2036.
