Torrance appoints leader of police department

Robert Dunn has been appointed as the Chief of Police for the city of Torrance.

The Anaheim Police Department is where Chief Dunn began his career in 1993 as a Police Explorer. In 2001, he was sworn in as a police officer. He has had a wide range of assignments, including Explorer Advisor, member of the Recruitment Team, Training Officer, and Community Policing Officer. In 2008 he was promoted to Sergeant and then in 2013 to Lieutenant.

He became Captain in 2018 when he became part of the Fullerton Police Department and supervised the Support Services Division. Later in 2018, he was appointed Acting Chief and then the 18th Chief of Police in Fullerton in 2019.

Aram Chaparyan, city manager, expressed his pleasure in in appointing Dunn as the new Chief of Police in Torrance. He said that Dunn has 25 years of distinguished law enforcement experience and has been Assistant Chief in the city. Chaparyan added that he has a proven record of leadership and fostering meaningful partnerships in the community. He commented that Chief Dunn has the vision that will strengthen the bonds among the businesses, residents, and officers in the city.
