What's Happening in Torrance, CA…

Torrance expands micro-transit service

The hours of service and areas covered by Connect Torrance, the on-demand program of the city, are to be expanded.

Connect Torrance offers an affordable and convenient method of transportation for anyone traveling within the city, without the need for a private vehicle. Following a successful first six months, the service now operates from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm Monday through Friday, and from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm on the weekends. Key destinations across east and central Torrance are now part of the expanded service areas to facilitate travel for residents and visitors.

The service uses a mobile app powered by Via from TransitTech. Those needing a ride in the service zone can book a shared ride for a flat fee of $5 for residents and $3 for those 65 years of age and older. More details about such transit options, service areas, and fares can be made known throughout a community with flyer printing.

Connect Torrance is funded by Measure M Visionary Seed Funds from LA Metro, the operating budget of Torrance Transit, and funding from the Measure R Transit program, which is managed by the South Bay Cities Council of Governments.

The city and Torrance Transit are constantly looking for feedback from residents so that it can expand coverage and optimize service, especially during this early phase of the expanded hours.
