Before the business card printing was even complete to announced his new position as mayor, Pat Furey, was unveiling his priorities for the City of Torrance.
Furey unveiled three new actions that are his immediate priorities: a view impairment ordinance, update of city’s website, and a structured workshop that reviews grievances and fixes for city streets.
On the issue of view impairment, city staff members have already initiated a study to analyze current situation within the city. This will also review how other municipalities have constructed regulations to insure vegetation on a property does not become overgrown or outsized. Furey is looking for the study report to be completed within 60 days.
With the website, the mayor has indicated he wants a redesign that create a more attractive, user friendly, and interactive site. Furey noted he wants the city’s site to be one that invites residents, business owners, tourists, and others to explore the information on the site in greater depth.
Lastly, Mayor Furey wants a comprehensive report detailing the city’s infrastructure action plan for the next five years. Anticipating the strain street work can place on a budget, Furey wants the report to include options for other funding sources to support the public works projects. If all goes as planned, the report would be presented at a council meeting focused on the street repair concerns.
Judging by the mayor’s first week, it appears the Torrance community can look forward to a lot of activity from city government over the next few months.
