Torrance aims for effective water conservation

While some cities in the South Bay region have not acted quickly with regard to reducing water usage, the authorities in Torrance have been swift to implement their policies.

It has been proposed that strict limits will be imposed on sprinkler use in Torrance. Landscapes could receive just 10 minutes of watering per day. This task might have to be accomplished between the early evening and the morning of the next day.

The Director of Public Works, Rob Beste, has stated that the City Council will probably take more action to limit water use. If a reduction in water usage of 15% is achieved, a Print company in Torrance could be contacted to help promote the positive news.

Beste has told The Daily Breeze:

“Our level 2 fits exactly what the governor is asking for. We were one of the first cities to enact a (water supply) ordinance. We went to level 1 before most of the other cities in the region did.”

Torrance aimed to get water use down by 10% just over a year ago. Although the consumers have not quite hit the ambitious target yet, the hope is that they will now meet a new goal.

However, local customers will not have to battle against wasting water without assistance. They will probably be helped by a ban on filling ponds. In addition, their task should be made easier by fast action against leaks.
