Teamwork lights the way in Torrance

Torrance residents have taken their holiday decorating efforts a step further, work together to create a notable light display.

As part of an annual tradition, people who live along Robert Road, near the Pacific Coast Highway where it runs through Torrance, put lights on their houses. By doing so, they have transformed the entire area into what is called the ‘Sleepy Hollow Christmas Lights Extravaganza’. The Christmas lights run for a six-block stretch.

The display has been part of Torrance's Christmas celebrations for more than 40 years. People can either drive through the neighborhood to see the lights, or go through on foot. Those walking are advised to dress warmly, wear comfortable shoes, and stop at a restroom before starting out, since there are none available in the area. People should also bring cash, since some of the houses provide cider, cocoa, coffee, popcorn, or cookies.

Neighborhood residents might consider working with a banner printing company to create a holiday item to hang over the street at the entrance to the area.

The display is free, and open every night from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, rain or shine. The lights will be running until January 1, 2015. People who want to see them need to keep an eye on the clock, since the lights are shut off promptly at 10:00 pm.
