Special award recognizes Torrance citizen's efforts

Gerald T. Ronan has been presented with the Jared Sidney Torrance Award by Patrick J. Furey, mayor of Torrance, for his lifetime commitment and contributions to the city.

Announcements of such awards are often made known throughout a community with many kinds of printing services.

Ronan has dedicated over 65 years of his life to the city. He taught English and history at Torrance High School for 37 years and later became a guidance counselor. Since he retired, he reads over 1,000 essays by students and participates in the selection of students as a member of the Students and Government Day Committee. He is known as “Jerry” in the community and has been recognized for the donation of his talent, treasures, and time to the community. He is also involved in such organizations as the Torrance Theatre Company, the Torrance Historical Society, and the Torrance Cultural Arts Center.

Established in 1984, recipients of the Jared Sidney Torrance Award are selected by the mayor for their continued service to the community. The award is presented by the Torrance City Council and recognizes those who have served the community over long periods of time through their dedication and leadership. Among the past recipients of the award are exceptional community leaders who have generously served the community, as well as former appointed and elected officials.
