New technology space opened at college in Torrance

El Camino College (ECC) in Torrance, in response to the rapid increase in jobs in the technology industry, has opened a new makerspace.

This space has a music and podcast studio, a video recording studio, 3D printers, Wacom tablets, soldering equipment, a virtual reality space and scale model, remote-controlled cars. Brenda Thames, President and Superintendent of El Camino College, said that these facilities will show students the many possibilities in technology, allowing them to explore their ideas and interests. More details about such spaces and their offerings can be made available with flyer printing.

The college is working with several organizations in the area to also assist students in their pursuit of careers in technology. One of these organizations is TechTonic 3D, which was formed by three engineering students who will be launching a start-up to produce high-quality 3D printers at affordable prices with support and funding from NASA.

The college partnered with Red Rocks Community College to create the Space, Cyber & Supply Talent Development Center. This was launched by the college in May 2021 to help place students in technology jobs once they complete their degrees. ECC is also working with the South Bay Workforce Improvement Board to create career paths in the workplace for students in programs from all educational areas.
