New system in Torrance to protect first responders
Enhancements have recently been made to the fleet of fire apparatus belonging to the Torrance Fire Department that will maximize protection of its first responders and increase road safety.
The HAAS Alert’s Safety Cloud digital alerting platform works in fire vehicles to prevent collisions, with the delivery of real-time alerts to drivers in California when there are active emergency vehicles in their area. This is a digital solution that enhances sirens and lightbars with additional notifications in vehicles to minimize the likelihood of collisions with first responders.
The digital alerting system of Safety Cloud sends warnings to drivers about road workers or emergency vehicles as they are on the scene or enroute. This system has been proven to significantly reduce collisions and keep both drivers and first responders safe. Both Apple Maps and the Waze navigation app make these alerts accessible, and they are also integrated into the dashboard of many modern vehicles and compatible with mobile devices.
Brochure printing is often used to provide more details about such systems and their benefits for users.
Tim Behen, Battalion Chief of the Torrance Fire Department, said Safety Cloud facilitates the operation of firefighters with greater safety. He added that it provides drivers with more time to respond appropriately, and so creates a safer environment for both motorists and the crew.
