Nature merges with art in Torrance

The Madrona Marsh Nature Center and Preserve is presenting an ‘Art in Nature’ watercolor class.

Instructor Suzanne Gibson will lead the session. Using the preserve as inspiration, students will create watercolor landscapes including the plants and animals that call the marsh home.

The outdoor workshop costs $10 per person and includes supplies. The class is designated for individuals aged eight and over, and it is likely a poster printing service in Torrance was asked to create a promotional sign to be placed in the nature center.

In a primarily urban area, the Madrona Marsh Preserve is a wetland that provides a home to birds, amphibians, reptiles, insects, and other small creatures. The marshy landscape is one of the last of its kind in Southern California.

Along with educational classes, the establishment also hosts nature walks and guided tours. Gardening classes, photography exhibits, and bird walks are also events on the calendar. The nature center is open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Tuesday through Sunday, except for holidays.

The Friends of Madrona Marsh is an organization committed to protecting and maintaining the preserve. There are volunteer opportunities to help weed and restore the habitat. Volunteers also help run the center and act as docents for various tours.

The art class will take place tomorrow, January 17, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. For more information, call (310)-782-3989.
