Adequate vegetation is important to local ecosystems and habitat restoration - so says the Madrona Marsh Nature Center and Preserve in Torrance, which has put out a call looking for adults who are willing to lend it a helping hand in protecting and propagating native plants.
The facility’s Propagation Society is looking for new members to come and find out what it is all about. They will teach members of the public how they can best prepare a patch of soil for growing native plants. They will also provide instruction in how to collect seeds once they are ready for harvest, how to pot a plant into a larger container once it has outgrown its current one, pruning techniques and more.
The plants that are grown will be used in a variety of ways. Some will be sold to raise funds for the center, while others will find a place in habitat restoration projects where they will provide food, shelter and living space for the area’s wildlife. There is no fee being charged to take part in the event, but donations will be welcomed. Presentation Folders that contain more information about the center and what it does can be given to each person who comes to an event like this.
The Propagation Society’s Planting Seeds for the Future event will be held on January 5th at the Madrona Marsh Nature Center and Preserve. More details can be obtained by calling 310-782-3989 or by emailing madronamarshpreserve@TorranceCA.Gov.Get a Free Quote for Presentation Folders
