The ScotsFestival and International Highland Games XXVII is coming to Long Beach next month, and might interest residents of Torrance.
Printing services can be used to create materials which can be sent to those in the community and surrounding areas to inform them of such an event.
The festival celebrates Scottish culture and history. The weekend features amateur and professional competitions in Highland athletics and dancing, piping, drumming, and darts. Whisky tastings are one activity at the event where professionals relate the history and taste of each whisky. Trained dogs will demonstrate the artistry of sheep herding, where the dogs’ master will discuss the process and history of this tradition.
Each day of the festival will feature the Grande Parade at midday. Also, each day before the parade, the poem of Robert Burns, “Ode to the Haggis,” will be recited, after which listeners will be able to have a taste of the Scottish delicacy and a sip of whisky. There will also be demonstrations of falconry, featuring owls, hawks, and other birds of prey. Participants will be able to show their abilities to throw an ax or hit the target with archery.
Kids will be able to enjoy their own mini-Highland games, and to take part in knighting and coronation ceremonies.
This festival will take place on Saturday, February 15 and Sunday, February 16 aboard the Queen Mary.
